vitamins
sweetienat123 asked:

I just found out I’m pregnant, about 6 weeks or so. I haven’t seen the doctor and won’t be able to for another week, so I am wondering if I should start taking prenatal vitamins on my own already.
Can I just get the vitamins from the grocery store, and is there a specific type I need to get?
Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions.

  1. Rural thoughts Says:

I took over the counter ones from Wal Mart. They worked for both of my pregnancies. They are actually called Prenatal Vitamins.

Before I could see the doctor, I also took the ones from wal-mart, and for me they worked great!!! The RX ones that the dr. perscribed actually make me sick, but I can keep these down!!!

    CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK!!!

  3. David Says:

GO TO THE DOCTOR. They will prescribe them for you.

  4. Love to Answer Says:

Over the counter Prenatal Vitamins work just fine, and they have the same ingredients as the prescription ones. Pregnant women may also take 2 “Flinstones” childrens vitamins a day instead of prenatals (many women do this if the prenatal vitamins make them nauseous). The important thing is that you get enough Folic Acid and Iron. Eating multi-grain cereals (such as Multi Grain Cheerios) also has a lot of the vitamins you need.

it will be ok to wait till you go to the doctor to get prenatal vitamins. they are not a necessity to pregnancy but help with the health of you and your baby alot. Witch is why they are imporntant and stressed about alot. but it will not hurt to wait. If you prefer not to wait till your apt. then I would go to GNC and buy some you can ask the person working where they are at and they will find them for you. Good luck and congrats

I am taking whole food prenatals….my body absorbs the nutrients better with these….Instead of just one small pill, I have to take 6 larger pills a day, but it is for the baby and so worth it!

    btw: congratulations on your baby!!!!

any brand of pre natal is great just get on them. try to take them in the evening to cut down on any possible nausea, and at the same time to keep you regular ( you may not think that’s important now but you will later)
also get yourself a bottle of folic acid anything around 200 mg or so for your energy and babies brain the earlier the better! Shouldn’t cost more than around 14 for the prenatal and 2-4 for the folic acid
ps they have a chewable version if you try the regular and they do not work ask your doc !

i got my prenatal vitamins at walgreens….they were only 10 bucks. they have everything you need and more. good luck

Well, the main thing you need during the pregnancy is folic acid. With my pregnancy I wasn’t able to take any vitamins (they made me sick) so instead I just made sure to drink plenty of orange juice. The best thing to do is just wait to see the doctor. Don’t stress over it though, my baby ended up being a very healthy 8lbs 11oz!

yeah you can start taking the one’s they have at the store but keep in mind that you may just want to get a small bottle. your doctor may give you free samples. mine does he doesn’t write scripts unless he is out of the kind that you like. otherwise he just gives you his samples and you don’t have to buy anything. it’s really great it saves a ton of money. plus i think they are better. i bought some for about 25 before i went to the docs and i haven’t used them since. his are much better.
