My son is now 13 months. I have a sixty day supply of prenatal vitamins. Is it safe to continue taking them until they are gone? Chicatalk |

I took them for years before I got pregnant. The doctor wanted me on them because I was TRYING to get pregnant. I took them through out breastfeeding too. I don’t see what it could hurt to take them, I also have friends that take them because they think it makes your hair and nails grow faster

I’ve been taking prenatal vitamins since before I got pregnant with my daughter 4 yrs ago. I love them, and I think they’re the best you can get!

You should take them as long as you’re nursing. They’re probably safe for you to take if you aren’t nursing unless you have a liver disease or an extremely high red blood cell count. The only toxic factor in a PNV is the iron dosage. For most women this won’t hurt them even if they aren’t pregnant or nursing as women have lower hemoglobin levels.

You should continue to take prenatal vitamins while you are nursing. I have been taking them for the last 8 months as I have been nursing my first daughter. However, after that your body really does not need the high percentage of minerals found in the prenatal vitamins. I would suggest that you speak with your ob before continuing with the supply that you have. Good luck!
